“Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation.”
Facing the unknown can be scary and cause fear and worry to grow. Fear can compel us to look into the future to predict only that which is the worst-case scenario, and then to live fearful of it. Fear also turns into worry when it isn’t corralled. And let’s be honest, worry is worthless. It has no power to change the past, it can’t control the future, and it only wastes this moment.
The truth is, we do not know what the future holds. We should be less concerned about the future and what might happen, and more concerned with just doing what is right, trusting God for our future. Fear presents us an opportunity to trust God and to run to him, trusting that he may deliver us, and if not, he will use it to teach us more about the sufferings of Jesus.
Don’t lose sight that God is good and that he in his power has the ability to take the evil doings of the Devil and to turn it into something good and beneficial. With this in mind, read and pray through what the Bible says about our response to fear.
1 Timothy 1:6-7 ESV
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."
The key to overcoming fear is total and complete trust in God. Trusting God is how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced the fiery furnace without fear. Trusting God is how Stephen stood before his killers fearlessly. To trust God is to refuse to give in to fear. Even in the darkest times, we can trust in God to make things right. This trust comes from knowing God and knowing that He is good.
Sample Prayer:
"You are the strength of my life; You are my rock, my fortress and my protector; therefore, whom shall I be afraid? You are my shield, my strong-tower and my stronghold. I will call to You because You are worthy to be praised (Psalm 27:1). When I’m crushed by my fears and worries, remind me of your power and grace. Fill me with your peace as I trust in you and you alone. I know I can’t beat this on my own, but I also know that I have you, Lord, and you have already paid the ultimate price to carry my burdens. For this I thank you, Amen."
DÍA 05: LIBERTAD SOBRE EL MIEDO
Apocalipsis 2:10a
’No tengas miedo de lo que vas a sufrir. El diablo meterá a algunos de ustedes en la cárcel, para ver si en verdad confían en mí. Durante algún tiempo, ustedes tendrán muchas dificultades; pero si confían en mí hasta la muerte, yo les daré como premio la vida eterna.
Enfrentar lo desconocido puede ser aterrador y hacer que el miedo y la preocupación crezcan. El miedo puede obligarnos a mirar hacia el futuro para predecir sólo lo que es el peor de los casos, y luego vivir temerosos de ello. El miedo también se convierte en preocupación cuando no está controlado. Y seamos honestos, la preocupación no vale la pena. No tiene poder para cambiar el pasado, no puede controlar el futuro y solo desperdicia este momento.
La verdad es que no sabemos lo que nos depara el futuro. Deberíamos estar menos preocupados por el futuro y lo que podría suceder, y más preocupados por hacer lo correcto, confiando en Dios para nuestro futuro. El temor nos presenta una oportunidad para confiar en Dios y correr hacia él, confiando en que él puede liberarnos, y si no, lo usará para enseñarnos más sobre los sufrimientos de Jesús.
No pierdas de vista que Dios es bueno y que él en su poder tiene la capacidad de tomar las malas acciones del diablo y convertirlas en algo bueno y beneficioso. Con esto en mente, lea y ore a través de lo que la Biblia dice acerca de nuestra respuesta al temor.
2 Timoteo 1:6-7
Por lo cual te recuerdo que avives el fuego del don de Dios que hay en ti por la imposición de mis manos. Porque no nos ha dado Dios espíritu de cobardía, sino de poder, de amor y de dominio propio.
La clave para vencer el miedo es la confianza total y completa en Dios. Confiar en Dios es cómo Sadrac, Mesac y Abed-nego enfrentaron el horno de fuego sin temor. Confiar en Dios es la forma en que Esteban se presentó ante sus asesinos sin miedo. Confiar en Dios es negarse a ceder al miedo. Incluso en los tiempos más oscuros, podemos confiar en Dios para hacer las cosas bien. Esta confianza proviene de conocer a Dios y saber que Él es bueno.
EJEMPLO DE ORACIÓN
Tú eres la fuerza de mi vida; Tú eres mi roca, mi fortaleza y mi protector;…Dios mío, tú eres mi luz y mi salvación; ¿de quién voy a tener miedo? Tú eres quien protege mi vida; ¡nadie me infunde temor! (Salmo 27:1) Cuando esté aplastado por mis miedos y preocupaciones, recuérdame tu poder y gracia. Lléname de tu paz mientras confío en ti y solo en ti. Sé que no puedo vencer esto por mi cuenta, pero también sé que te tengo, Señor, y ya has pagado el precio máximo para llevar mis cargas. Por esto te doy las gracias, Amén.
