"“The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father.”
When He walked the Earth, Jesus was fully man and fully God. It is an important distinction we need to remember. Jesus was not 50% man and 50% God (or part man, part God). He was 100% a man yet 100% God. This is what we celebrated over a month ago during Christmas. That Jesus was God incarnate or God in the flesh.
There are many ways Scripture reminds us of Jesus’ divine nature. For one, Jesus claimed He was God. This is why Jesus was able to make statements like “before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58) or “your sins are forgiven” (Luke 7:48). Also, Jesus rising from the dead proved He would “be Lord both of the dead and of the living” (Romans 14:9).
As Christians, we are “all in” trusting in Jesus because of the authority He holds. We follow the God-man who conquered sin and death. And as we trust in this authority, we want others to come to know Jesus too.
Take some time to read and pray through the below verses:
Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)
“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Christians are to live on mission because of the authority Jesus has as Lord. Furthermore, knowing Jesus has that authority, we need to connect ourselves to His power. Without Jesus, we would not have the strength to accomplish this task on our own.
Charles Spurgeon, the great 19th century London preacher, said this: “Since all authority on earth is logged in Christ’s hands, He can also clothe any and all of His servants with a sacred might by which their hands will be sufficient for them in their high calling” (The Spurgeon Study Bible, 2017).
Reaching both the nations and our neighbors seems like an impossible task on our own. But we are not going at it alone. Jesus is deciding to take the lead and use imperfect people like you and me to fulfill His commission. What power Jesus shows by doing this! So, let us run to Jesus for that strength to reach out to those who need His saving grace.
Sample Prayer:*
“Jesus, all the Earth is yours, including me! The Earth is filled with your glory. And I want to see others to glorify you and trust in you. Give me the courage to reach out to those far from you. I want my friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. to know and follow you. Open the eyes of their heart. Use my words and my actions to show your redeeming love to them. Work through me with your power and strength.”
*Your goal each day is to not only read the passage but to turn the words of that passage into a prayer. Each day, we’ll give you an example of this to help guide you, but you should listen for God’s voice as you pray and apply the passage personally.
Día 19: Autoridad de Jesús

“Y al vencedor[a], al que guarda mis obras hasta el fin, le daré autoridad sobre las naciones, y las regirá con vara de hierro, como los vasos del alfarero son hechos pedazos, como yo también he recibido autoridad de mi Padre”.
Cuando caminó sobre la tierra, Jesús era completamente hombre y completamente Dios. Es una distinción importante que debemos recordar. Jesús no era 50% hombre y 50% Dios (o parte hombre, parte Dios). Él era 100% hombre pero 100% Dios. Esto es lo que celebramos hace más de un mes durante la Navidad. Que Jesús era Dios encarnado o Dios en la carne.
Hay muchas formas en que las Escrituras nos recuerdan la naturaleza divina de Jesús. Por un lado, Jesús afirmó que Él era Dios. Es por eso que Jesús pudo hacer declaraciones como “antes que Abraham fuera, YO SOY” (Juan 8:58) o “tus pecados te son perdonados” (Lucas 7:48). Además, Jesús resucitando de entre los muertos probó que sería “Señor tanto de los muertos como de los vivos” (Romanos 14:9).
Como cristianos, estamos “totalmente comprometidos” confiando en Jesús debido a la autoridad que Él tiene. Seguimos al Dios-hombre que venció el pecado y la muerte. Y al confiar en esta autoridad, queremos que otros lleguen a conocer a Jesús también.
Tómese un tiempo para leer y orar a través de los siguientes versículos:

Los cristianos deben vivir en misión debido a la autoridad que Jesús tiene como Señor. Además, sabiendo que Jesús tiene esa autoridad, necesitamos conectarnos a Su poder. Sin Jesús, no tendríamos la fuerza para realizar esta tarea por nuestra cuenta.
Charles Spurgeon, el gran predicador londinense del siglo XIX, dijo esto: “Puesto que toda la autoridad en la tierra está registrada en las manos de Cristo, Él también puede revestir a todos y cada uno de Sus siervos con un poder sagrado mediante el cual sus manos serán suficientes para ellos en sus vidas. (The Spurgeon Study Bible, 2017).
Llegar tanto a las naciones como a nuestros vecinos parece una tarea imposible por nuestra cuenta. Pero no vamos a hacerlo solos. Jesús está decidiendo tomar la iniciativa y usar a personas imperfectas como tú y yo para cumplir Su comisión. ¡Qué poder muestra Jesús al hacer esto! Entonces, corramos a Jesús por esa fuerza para alcanzar a aquellos que necesitan Su gracia salvadora.
Ejemplo de oración:*
“¡Jesús, toda la Tierra es tuya, incluyéndome a mí! La tierra se llena de tu gloria. Y quiero ver a otros glorificarte y confiar en ti. Dame el valor para llegar a los que están lejos de ti. Quiero que mis amigos, familiares, vecinos, compañeros de trabajo, etc. te conozcan y te sigan. Abre los ojos de su corazón. Usa mis palabras y mis acciones para mostrarles tu amor redentor. Trabaja a través de mí con tu poder y tu fuerza”.
*Su objetivo cada día es no solo leer el pasaje, sino convertir las palabras de ese pasaje en una oración. Cada día, le daremos un ejemplo de esto para ayudar a guiarlo, pero debe escuchar la voz de Dios mientras ora y aplica el pasaje personalmente.
