Established in Faith With Others

We want you to be established in the faith with others.

There are two parts of this statement.

1. Established… in the faith.

Followers of Jesus believe specific truths recorded for us and revealed to us in Scripture. Christian faith is based on truths that do not change.

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

(Jude 3 ESV)

[1] Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, [2] and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. [3] For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, [4] that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, [5] and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
 (1 Corinthians 15:1–5 ESV)

Faith is so much more than merely a feeling about God or Jesus. Biblical faith is a response to revealed knowledge about God’s saving work through Jesus.

Questions: What are a few facts about “the faith” and “the gospel” according to these verses?

The Bible is our fully reliable and authoritative source for the knowledge necessary to establish our faith in God. What’s more, you must read the Bible to follow God’s Word, not just learn about it. To be established requires regular (think daily) rhythms of reading God’s Word and applying it to your life.

While the Bible is absolutely essential to establishing your faith, following Jesus is a team sport.

2. Established… with others.

Christians are meant to be a body of believers, growing and serving God in community. Don’t try to go it alone.

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

(2 Timothy 2:22 ESV)

According to the Bible, we mature as Christians along with other believers. So, do you have friends that encourage your faith?
