Why VBS

WHY VBS

By: Melissa Bartlett

Vacation Bible School, more commonly known as VBS, is an week experience that allows Harvest to help build and grow our children in their faith.  This year, VBS will take place on June 5th-9th from 6:00-8:30pm.  Our theme is “Keepers of the Kingdom,” with the emphasis coming from Ephesians 6, and the importance of putting on the armor of God.  At the end of VBS, kids will understand how to wear the full armor of God, so when they face evil and temptations, they will be able to firmly stand their ground.

In our unpredictable world, we know the world and the evil one will work to influence our kids. What a great missional opportunity we have this summer to counteract that!  I love that VBS gives a place for our teens and adults connect with kids deeply. If you have a love for kids and Jesus, come join us for the week as we look for practical opportunities to encourage, instruct and have a great time with this next generation.   Please don’t stop there…This is a great opportunity to invite your friends, family, neighbors, teammates, and even strangers to hear about the news of Jesus and see that church can be fun.  There will be a clear gospel message throughout the week that will be supported during every station the kids participate in.

Please encourage your guests (and your family) to register on our website (harvestflorida.org/vbs).  There will also be an option to register at the door.

As VBS approaches, there are many things you can be praying about with us.

  • Please pray for a clear gospel message every night.
  • Pray for the hearts of the unsaved.  VBS is a high emotion week – we do not want decisions to be made lightly or out of pressure.  Pray that unsaved hearts will be called to Jesus and the kids will be open and desire the free gift of eternal life.
  • Pray for those that have a relationship with Jesus to grow in their understanding of the necessity of the armor of God and how to affectively wear it daily.
  • Pray for endurance for our volunteers.  This is an energetic, but exhausting week.  Pray that God will keep all volunteers healthy and full of strength to keep up with the energy of the young kids.
  • Pray for the growth of our community.  We want VBS to be an outreach for the community and a way to strengthen relationships.
